Good afternoon Room 106 parents!
I can’t believe we are 2 days from Thanksgiving break! Trimester 1 is complete, and report cards go live on Powerschool on Friday (probably after 10 or 11am).
Thanks again to all of the families who took time to come in for conferences. I enjoyed getting to discuss the growth your students have made, and look forward to building on that progress in the coming months. To any families that were unable to attend conferences, I would be happy to set up a phone conference to touch base and update you on your student’s 3rd grade year.
This week in math, students are learning the meaning of division and learning division strategies while continuing to work towards mastery of their math facts. We will continue division when we return from Thanksgiving. I highly encourage students to continue working on iReady and XtraMath over break if possible to stay sharp while we are out of school.
In literacy, we wrapped up our short unit on poetry, learning about alliteration, rhyming patterns, and free verse poems. Students are completing their informational essays on states, and I’m excited to see what the students write about! November book reports are due this Friday, and I have loved the reports that have been turned in so far. Students have done a great job summarizing their books and gotten other students excited about reading! In social studies, we are wrapping up our lessons on regions and landmarks, and we will return to science, specifically life cycles, when we return from Thanksgiving break.
NOTES:
- 3rd grade students will begin their recorder lessons with Mrs. Luehr in music class after Thanksgiving break, so please make sure to submit $5 for a recorder or let Ms. Luehr know if you have a recorder already so that everything is ready to go when we return. (Almost all students have done this already.)
- iReady Winter Testing will occur the week of December 11th-15th. Times are not set yet, but please let me know if your student will be absent during that time.
That is all for now. I hope everyone has a fantastic break and all students have some time to relax and recharge so we can return and have a great and productive end to 2023!
Best,
Ben
